What color should I paint a furnished basement that has no windows? The couch is navy blue and the rug is grey

The only restrictions are the navy blue leather couch and the carpet which is a light grey. There are no windows so I don't want it to look too small or have the color be too overwhelming. Any suggestions? I thought maybe a yellow or orange type of color but I can't really decide! What color should I paint a furnished basement that has no windows? You're going to want to brighten up the room, try a yellow or even yellow-beige (Tuscany yellow) if your not in to plain yellow. You could go with a very bight white, but i personally a hint of color always makes things brighter. Pale orange is a nice alternative as well, but you have to be careful with orange. You don't want it to feel like your inside fruit! What color should I paint a furnished basement that has no windows? The couch is navy blue and the rug is grey
I think white is a good color for a room such as this. Your furniture and rug are dark...you don't have any windows...definitely go with white to bring some needed air to the space. If you must have color, think about making an accent wall, stripe or border with a color, since you've got a grey and navy...try a nice slate for accent, it's a very rich and tasteful color.
I'd go with a either a grain or water color from this site;

A medium blue-grey shade would be nice, or a golden yellow earth tone.
off white, antique white

keep it bright
i'd do a yellow-orange mixed with quite a bit of white
I like your idea of yellow. It will make the room seem sunny and bright and you need that without windows. Choose a very light shade. Yellow, more than any other color, intensifies when put on the wall. You might consider making ';fake windows';. Go to a thrift store and buy old window frames. The bigger the better. Paint them. Then buy a beautiful scenic poster to staple behind the frame. Hang and you have an instant window with a view. You could even change the posters for the different seasons. Have fun!

When removing windows with lead paint on the wall.?

This building was built before 1950. Now we want to remove the windows and replace with new. There are people working in the building. 1. What kind of contractor do I need. 2. Do I need to remove the people that are working in the building. When removing windows with lead paint on the wall.?
The easy answer is ....

CONTAIN the area with 4 or 6 mill poly.....

WORK wet.........

CLEAN up with HEPA vac / wash / HEPA vac cycles.

The workers will be subject to OSHA regulation CFR 29 1926.62 which states they my not be exposed to more than 49 micrograms of lead per cubic meter (ug/m3) of air over a 8 hour time weighted average.

If this is ';Targeted Housing'; they may not leave more than 39 micrograms of lead per square foot (ug/ft2) on the floors and not more than 249 ug/ft2 on the interior window sills.

If you are calling this work ';lead-paint abatement'; the contractor must be certified as well as each worker. If the intent is to upgrade the building they only need ';lead safe work practices'; training.

For more info please read http://home.mindspring.com/~wrltc/lswp.p鈥?/a> Its a book I wrote for parents doing re-modeling or having it done. And lead issues in general. It was paid for by a fed/state grant. Which means its your book as much as mine. Education about this subject is my job.

(Look at the very last page to see a list of questions to ask the contractors)

For more direct questions please contact me at wrltc@mindspring.com And feel free to pass this along to others. When removing windows with lead paint on the wall.?
Unlike asbestas, lead is not an airborn contaminate. Handling of lead surfaces should be done only with personnel wearing safety glasses, dust mask, long sleeved shirts and gloves.

If I remember correctly, the lead risk factor is only a 2 and that's with direct contact. Substances and/or chemicals with a risk factor of a 5 or above require special training, safety clothing and/or equipment for handling

What color paint will brighten a room with no windows besides white?

Unfortunately, our kitchen has no windows, and it's a fairly small area. The layout is actually made that if we put in a window, it would be in the garage. Not our idea at all.

We are looking for some ideas or any advice on what we can do to this kitchen. Love to buy another house, but this one was in our budget.

We already have fluorescent lighting, which actually doesn't seem to help much.

So any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated! What color paint will brighten a room with no windows besides white?
All paint colors are indexed with a ';reflectivity index'; which is a scientific assessment of how much light a color puts back into the room. Nothing is brighter than white paint.

    Something you should know is that in most kitchens, a majority of the wall space is taken up with cabinetry. This means that wall space dedicated to paint is minimal and that any effort to manipulate the space with paint will be minimally successful. So, here's what I do to help kitchens out; kitchens are the heart of the home and associated with warmth, cooking and brown toasty things. Your eye craves contrast and contrast is what makes spaces look smaller. If your wood is a medium tone and you paint the walls a light color, it will make the wood look darker and due to the contrast, smaller. It seems silly I know to think that painting your walls a darker tone will make the space seem bigger but it will. I have done this for thousands of clients and they love the results. Remember that most of your wallspace is cabinetry so the last thing you want to do is make them look darker. The goal for your space is to take its inherent characteristic and play to it. The room will never be a garden space filled with light so you should go for the warm and cozy look. Much like I will never be a supermodel, I must concentrate on the things that I do well LOL%26gt;

Paint the walls a wood like color, don't be afraid to go a little deeper. If your cabinets are oak, try Ben Moore's #1102, if the cabinets are darker, go for a terra cotta color. Clay pots and clay-like colors are naturals in kitchens...you will love your new space guaranteed! Then decorate with bold accent colors in dishes and accessories.

    Cheers,

BeverlyWhat color paint will brighten a room with no windows besides white?
Depends on your kitchen cabinets %26amp; appliances. Consider the color in the wood (i.e., oak tends to be yellow, walnut tends to be brown etc). Some whites are cold especially if they are blue whites; a creamy white is warm but still bright, and if appropriate you could consider yellow. One thing to consider with the fluorescent lighting is to use full spectrum (daylight) light bulbs, and also lighting under the upper cabinets to light up your task area.
We use a color called shy peach from Wal-Mart. but any light tint of color would help with lighter appearance. In the old days they said never use blue in the kitchen but those rules are out the window. Choose a color which goes well with your decor, then have the paint store show you some of the lightest tints of that color.

What can I do about lead paint on my windows. I have a 5 year old?

I'm afraid for my daughter please help!!!!!What can I do about lead paint on my windows. I have a 5 year old?
Most cases of lead poisoning from paint come from under-fed and poorly supervised children eating paint flakes that were already peeling off, or were easily peeled off.

Other cases have occurred in children when people were remodeling and dry scraping or sandpapering painted surfaces, thereby putting paint dust into the air where they can be inhaled or contaminate food or eating utensils.

If the paint is wearing off the window frame from opening and closing the window, paint dust could accumulate on or around the windowsill, and/or get into the air.

If you decide to remove it, it would be better to use a chemical paint-stripper designed for lead oil-based paint, rather than using any type of dry scraping or sanding process. Your daughter should not be in the room while removal is underway and the windows are repainted.

The waste products should be kept out of her reach and disposed of in a hazardous waste facility, if possible. Depending on local laws, it might be illegal to toss it into the trash. What can I do about lead paint on my windows. I have a 5 year old?
To find out the proper way to take care of that. Call a paint store. They should be able to help you. If not try looking in your phone book For a goverment agency that can help you.
Clean it up, scrap it off, clean up again, prime, repaint.
is it chipping?...the paint chips contain lead..... you can just paint over it with a latex paint..... it is only a hazard if it is ingested ...
If it's not chipping you can paint over it However if it is lead it is probably oil base you will need to use a oil base paint.

On the other hand if it's chipping it is a different story. It can be in the dust of your house!!!!! My parents had this problem. My parents had someone come in and take care of it. I'm not sure you can do it yourself. I do know everyone working on it needs to have a respirator on and you shouldn't be staying at the house when it's done.

You might want to get you daughter tested for lead levels.
Check with your community development dept with the city. They may have a lead abatement program. We had the same problem. The city sent in a service and they went through the whole house inside and out and took meter readings and filled out a zone by zone report. Then companies bid for the job and encapsulated all areas with lead according to the report. You may have more than lead paint. Some finishes in the old days had lead content also. For your childrens sake be aware where the lead is. Good Luck!! Hope this helps.

What color should I paint a smaller room with no windows?

I have a den that I use as a guest room. I have french vanilla and white bedroom furniture and would like to create a shabby-chic look. What color would look best on the walls? The rug is also an off-white and one entire wall is all closet.';What color should I paint a smaller room with no windows?
for smaller rooms you are supposed to use lighter colors to make it appear larger. definitely do not use whites or creams or dark colors. good luck and happy holidays (:What color should I paint a smaller room with no windows?
Choose one of these tones of white and stick to an all white room (the whites do not have to be the same...the trick to this would be textures. An all white room can be a fantastic look. To soften the box look (because there is no window, you can hang a curtain on the wall at the head of the bed as if there is a window (keep it floor length).
I would say maybe a beige or a light green (but not a minty green more like an olive). They're light colors which are necessary in small rooms and they are classic and match with anything. If you want you can make a faux window, they look really cool. You put up a shade and a curtain over it and shine a light through the back, with the shade pulled down the window looks real and pretty cool and its not that expensive to make!
Use light color paint, and get one of those mirrors that looks like a window with small panes. Some have a little ledge, that you could sit a small planter of silk flowers. Makes it look like there is a window, also makes the room look larger.
A small room needs to be either a light color or have a large wall mirror. I would go with yellow. Not to soft and not to much gold.
    navy or a light purple.

I would like to paint my wood on my windows (grid). What steps do I need to take (type of paint, etc)?

I recently purchased new windows for my upstairs. I could not afford to replace all of the windows in the house at the same time. The grid work on the windows is the same pattern, but the colors do not match. The new windos have the grid inside the window and the downstairs is wood and outside of the window. I would like to paint the wood on the lower level to match the color on the upstairs windows until I can afford to replace the lower level windows. There is already paint on the lower level windows (wood). I understand about having to mask it off to protect the glass, but can I paint directly over the previous color or do I need to sand that off in order to apply the new color? Also, what type of paint do I need to use? There is a storm window over all of the windows. Thank you in advance for the help!I would like to paint my wood on my windows (grid). What steps do I need to take (type of paint, etc)?
First thing is to figure out the type pf existing paint, a very simple method is to get some methylated spirits on a rag wipe over the paint, if the paint softens then you have an acrylic( or water based coating ) if it doesn't soften then you have an enamel(or oil based coating).

Now that you know the type of coating the next step is preparation, First clean down to remove any dirt, dust mould etc, a general purpose household detergent should be good enough for this purpose.

next , depending on the condition of the existing coatin will determine how much work you have to do, if the paint is in a reasonable condition without to much flaking or peeling then you will just need to sand lightly with something like a 250gt sandpaper. If the existing coating has broken down and is flaking then you will have to remove as much of that flaking and loosed paint as possible, starting with an 80 or 100 grade sandpaper then moving on to a finer grade to feather and smooth any rough edges.

Next assuming the paint was in a reasonable condition and you have determined what type of paint it was you can just overcoat with the new color in the appropriate paint type, if it was oil based then use oil based again, if it was water based the use a water based enamel coating to ensure longevity and serviceability of your new paintwork.

If the old paint was in poor condition and you have areas of bare timber then you will have to prime these bare areas with a good quality timber primer, then undercoat the entire surface then topcoat.

    Now some tips

!) Make sure you don't sand the glass when your sanding the paintwork, consider masking the glass before you sand or just be careful to keep the sandpaper away from the glass

    2) Generally oil based enamels are still the best to use on exterior joinery although there are some very good water based paints available now that will work very well, consult your local paint shop.

    3) Remember when using oil based paints that you will need white spirits to clean up, it will be a good idea to have some ready and a rag just in case you get some on the glass or whatever so that you can clean up as you go. If using acrylic or water based paints then a damp rag will do the trick.I would like to paint my wood on my windows (grid). What steps do I need to take (type of paint, etc)?
If the paint is intact ....just wash it off well and then re-paint. You'll want to ask for outdoor paint and high gloss enamel is the easiest to clean when it gets grimy. If the paint is not intact or if your home is old enough for the existing paint to be lead based oil paint then it will need to be rough sanded so that the new paint will adhere without blistering up. (if you decide to rough sand , make sure you wear a dust mask as lead paint and all dust are irritating at least and may be harmful to your lungs.
    Huh-huh...you're gonna paint your wood...huh-huh!

What color would you paint a dark hallway with no windows?

I have a rustic country theme in my house, my hallway is short and dark with no windows and joins my small living rm. I want it to look bigger both rooms will be the same color. white is out of the question. Suggestions please. What color would you paint a dark hallway with no windows?
use a tan or light brown mixed with a tad bit of yellow, and i know it sounds a little crazy but trust me i have it in my house

(which sounds a lot like yours)and it looks great!

Good luckWhat color would you paint a dark hallway with no windows?
I would suggest butter yellow or a very soft sage green.
Yellow- yellow leads the eye forward , hence making the person anticipate something is to come of a wall painted in yellwoe. In this case yellow will make the space look bigger, it will brighten it up and furthermore by having a yellow hall it makes the person think something like a window is about to appear, howver it does not. ;)
Yellow? Very pale lime green? Or again a very pale orange? A good tip is to hang a large mirror as this will also make the space look bigger.
I wouldhave said a light blue, like the sky. That alone seems expansive. But to be the same as the otehr rooms?

    Maybe a light sea green.
Well then, the question should be what color should you paint your living room, and that depends on the furnishings. I used a Navajo White (on the beige side) to give my living room a larger appearance. The entry way I hung wainscotting on the lower 3ft. and painted it Pewter Brown, the top portion I painted Heron Plume (an off white). All of the paints were Sherman Williams. I have gotten more complements than I can count and they really do make the rooms look larger. Of course a large mirror over the sofa and one in the entry way also add to this illusion.
why not brighten it up with a bright wallpaper pattern
Use an off white or light tan/brown color.
i say a light yellow or orange
    pale yellow
yellow is actually brighter than white and more pleasing to the eye. Even if you hate it once it's up, it's easy to repaint.
Lighter colors make the space look bigger, darker colors smaller. Lighting also makes it look bigger. I would suggest something the same shade as your living room, but just a little darker.

Have you thought about mirrors on one of the hall walls? Mirrors really open up a space.
    yellow
I don't like white neither but I painted my apartment in cream, i love it

What color would you paint a basement that has no windows and a red brick fireplace?

The basement is an odd L shape and it's not very big because it's the bottom floor of a quad level house. The wall has a plaster faux finish on it already but it's stark white. The carpet is cranberry (bought the house that way) so we're change the carpet to an earth tone semi-shag.

I don't want it dark but I do want it to feel very warm and inviting. If you have a paint idea please give me a brand and name so I can check it out.

Thank you. What color would you paint a basement that has no windows and a red brick fireplace?
I think a nice soft yellow would be a really warm and inviting colour. You wouldn't want a BRIGHT yellow because yellow is considered a stimulating colour. If you choose something that has a bit of a pink undertone to it (not that you can see the pink, but it makes it buttery yellow) it calms the loudness of yellow to a warm tone! I have my hallways painted popcorn ball (Behr paint) and Cracked wheat (also Behr paint). My friend painted her basement with my leftover 'Cracked wheat' and she loves it (and she actually has a red-toned fireplace). Just be careful with the colour of yellow becuase of your reddish carpets - you don't want the area to look like an apple so a lighter shade of buttery yellow would be good (another good shade of yellow that I almost chose was vanilla delight or something like that...)

If you do decide on a green, especially a sage-y green, make sure that there is not too much grey in it. I painted our bedroom 'woodland mystery' (by CIL paints) which is pretty good - not too much grey. I had previously tried another tone that had way too much grey in it, and at least for the lighting that the room received, it look dull and depressing. I highly recommend getting a small can of any sage green and painting a wall (or part of a wall) to make sure it's not a depressing colour!

Hope that helps! Good luck with your painting! What color would you paint a basement that has no windows and a red brick fireplace?
play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family %26amp; color name, the ';painted'; rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

    http://www.sherwin.com/visualizer/

I think ';emerging taupe'; (# 6045) might be a great choice.

You can take a photo of your house %26amp; upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

    http://www.roomvues.com/

You can get color suggestions %26amp; for $5 they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.
I would choose a soft warm sandy tone or light mocha (think coffee with cream). Experiment with this site and consider a shade like ';Bittersweet Stem';, ';Sands of Time'; or go with a light buttery shade like ';Lemon Chiffon';. I think it's always best to buy your furniture first then find the color that works with it best. Sometimes just an accent pillow , an accent rug or a piece of art can be the inspiration for the whole room.

Go to the paint store and get some paint chip samples. I would go with something in the gold tones to go with the new carpet. Use alot of accent lighting like a couple of floor lamps and table lamps or hanging lampsIf you have some prints going on the walls pick one of the shades out of them.
    ok....

i would use a light sage green in sherwin-williams brand.

ok it is called rice paddy. it is very welcoming and refreshin and hard to dislike.

I really want to use color to brighten the space, I just don't have a clue where to start. What color should I paint a small bathroom with no windows and a 10 foot ceiling?
Be Creative...the ten foot ceiling is what you need to accentuate. Light pastels, in varying colors, from floor to ceiling will give a modern/retro look, especially if you use some masking tape, or templates you made or purchased and make some flowing patterns on one wall...maybe dab a sponge in a contrasting pastel and 'blotch it'

by dabbing on another wall. Maybe place a ridiculously thin and long framed foto of whatever your into, on one wall, and a very tall mirror, strategically placed, (may be on the door) to get a view of the back of your head at different angles. (with the retro hand mirror you got and painted from a garage sale! Keep towels, washcloths, to minimum, basically just for guests to dry their hands, and if it appears at all cumbersome and out of place, ditch the medicine cabinet, you shouldn't keep medicine in there anyway, and place a decorative theme type picture or mirror where the cabinet was. Whether your in to Bogey and McCall, or modern day space trips, car racing.. clowns etc... you AND your guests will admire your creativity, and the uniqueness of your new bathroom..What color should I paint a small bathroom with no windows and a 10 foot ceiling?
White colour would do better as it would not only brighten up the area but would also make a small place look bigger. Then any light colour like light blue or light pink would do. Avoid dark colours because they would make your bathroom look small and gloomy.
I like the very light greens and blues as well, I just painted ours a very light sage, and it looks fantastic!
loved go delim's thoughts. if you want to make the ceiling seem lower however, paint it a shade or two darker than the walls. you could even get a mirror, and paint a window scene on it to give the illusion of looking out, you know, panes, a nice outdoorsey garden or lake or forrest. whatever the colors you choose, they should be light and airey, pale yellow, pale blues and greens, even a nice light coral would be pretty.

for the window mirror idea, check out this, i just found it..

a light blue or green should brigten it up.. also you might consider some form of art in there, weather it is just a picture of like sea life or something like that. but i would go with a light bright green or blue
Use a very light color. when I went to get white paint for the bathroom there was a chart of a bunch of white paint colors.

Who knew? Anyway, Rather than the yellow tones I went with something to brighten up my tiny bathroom. It had pink tones you couldn't see it on the wall it looked white but it was a bright white. I loved it.

Paint? The equivalent of Paint would be primitive. If you want something better, go with The GIMP or Art2Rage Free. Those are free. What software in MAC computers that has an equivalent of Paint on Windows?
If you want to go for Apple Software the closest equivalent to Paint is probably AppleWorks (all in one solution for text, calculations, presentation, pictures = equivalent to Microsoft Office).

Depending on what you want to use it for, I'd also suggest checking on Apple's iWork (Pages for flyers, booklets, etc. and Keynote for presentations), iPhoto is great for photo editing (part of the iLife package).

The windows in our new flat are painted shut with thick white paint?

We need to get a sofa through one of the windows. We've tried using a stanley knife to cut through the paint but its too thick. Any suggestions as to how we remove the paint without ruining the paint job?The windows in our new flat are painted shut with thick white paint?
You can't remove the paint without ruining the paintjob - the two are mutually exclusive. If you have to open the window, you have to accept that the paint will have to be renewed. Be very careful if you decide to use the heatgun as the heat could shatter the glass. Otherwise, use a chemical paint stripper or use the stanley knife - invest in a new blade if it doesn't cut through. It probably isn't one thick coat but a build-up of many layers over years and it's going to take a lot of hard work to remove it.The windows in our new flat are painted shut with thick white paint?
On the outside of the window, slide a thick blade, like a painter's five-in-one tool, between the bottom window and the window sill. Jiggle up and down. Move to another spot and repeat.Run the blade up the sides in the same mannor.

You may have to use a hammer to get between the window and the materials surrounding it. Tap patiently, or you'll break the glass.

Repeat on the inside. Be sure to detatch the bottom window from the top also.

Outside again, pry the window open from the bottom.

There is no way to preserve the paint. There is no guarantee that you won't break glass or wood. This will open the window; that's all I can guarantee.

Stanley knife could shatter and hurt you, btw.
If you have a landlord, tell him to get it sorted cos it's a fire exit if needs be.
Get yourself one of those tools for stripping wall paper or filling holes with poly filla cannot remember what they are called - now push the sharp end into the join around the window and gently tap the handle with a hammer go all the way around and the window should free up.
a heatgun may do the job
Try a single edge razor blade.
Using a heat gun, burn it off, sand it down and re paint for a good job.
hammer and chisel and split the paint seal if you are careful you will not need to do a lot to touch it up after
get a sharp scrapper and dig the edge in first and start hitting the end carefully but with a bit of elbow if u no what i mean,i'm a painter and it is a difficult job to do so have fun!
ur landlord is now officially a slumlord. U should also get someone to check you water heaters, appliances..... He or she knew the windows were painted shut b-4 u moved in. I would make up something to break my lease and move, or tell him that you can't live in a place where u can't get fresh air. Unacceptable.
Hammer and Chisel. Good luck! :D

What shoudl I do first? Paint or Replace my windows?

I want my windows to match my new paint. However, I can paint all year round. My windows, I can only replace once in a lifetime. What shoudl I do first? Paint or Replace my windows?
Replace the windows first. More than likely your new windows won't be the same size as the old so you'll be painting again anyway. What shoudl I do first? Paint or Replace my windows?
Replace windows 1st. Paint any time.
    Replace them and then paint.
Replace your windows first. With the money you save due to the higher R value of modern windows, you can buy the paint that you want. :-)
replace the window as when u do so, u may discover holes , or u can not get exactly the same size of the window (or u can do damage in the paint need to be repaired) so u have to fill it first before painting
I think you should replace your windowsfirst because if you paint first and then go replace your windows, the windows you are looking for would be probably out.

Easiest way to scrape paint chips off old windows?

I own an old house that has lead-based paint on the windows and sills, they all (17), need to be scraped to remove the old paint chips. I have tried stripping, sanding, scraping and a wire brush.

I understand to keep the lead dust down it should be wet.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks to make this job easier...

Please....Please help me out!!!!Easiest way to scrape paint chips off old windows?
when working with old lead base paint on windows you need to be very careful. Keep the surface wet when scraping and use a hepa vacuum to clean up the debris. Put all scrapings into a plastic bag and tape it shut. use gloves and a good quality dust mask when working with lead based paint. This stuff is dangerous so be careful.Easiest way to scrape paint chips off old windows?
First it's best to just remove the old window and get rid of the hazard. Stripping the paint does not get rid of all the lead. If you do this take a lead safe class or get someone who knows lead safe practices. NEVER use a heat gun or power tools on lead based paint!

    Blowtorch and scraper.
Ok...first, I suggest not listening to the knuckleheads in here. Next, grab yourself a heat gun from a local hardware or other store. You want to grab a scraper also(sometimes they come in a kit with 4-5 different attachments). Now, use the heat gun to loosen the paint, BUT be very careful around the glass, you WILL crack the glass if you keep the heat on too long in one area of the pane. This is the exact method I use when restoring older windows. I'm assuming you'll be re-glazing too? Just a guess....good luck and email me personally when you need any more tips!
Use a ';heat gun'; to soften the paint and it will scrape away nicely.
    Razor blades
    use a razor blade.
get a pressurized water sprayer...like they have at the car wash...we just had a friend have his outside deck blasted with a sprayer...to get all the old paint chips off....
with a scraper or get someone else to do it.
Lighter fluid works well. Butane, like the ones that come in the refill containers for Zippo lighters are the best.

  • What is the easiest way to paint old style multi-paned glazed windows.?

I'm helping out a friend by painting the exterior of their house and the windows are killing me. Any tips? Several areas need to be reglazed which i am doing. Others I'm just caulking in the cracks before paint. I'm thinking to use blue painter tape and square off the areas I don't want painted and take it from there. Any tips? What is the easiest way to paint old style multi-paned glazed windows.?
Do Not use tape: It's more time and trouble than it's worth:

The trick is to use a GOOD QUALITY BRUSH. Good brushes put the paint where you want it to go the first time without streaking. As such, any additional cost pays for itself in saved labor within the first hour of use

Go to home depot and ask for an angled 2.5'; inch Purdy (Brand: also called a sash brush). Hold it like a pencil: after dipping it in paint, wipe excess off on rim of can (very important! -prevents runs).

Place paint on sills by moving whole arm (keep wrist still).

Keep rag nearby to clean mistakes before they set/dry. final cleanup can be done by scrapping with razor blade (if needed)

With a little practice, you'll be banging out entire windows in less time then it would take to tape 2 or 3 of the sills, and it will look better.

Also: ask the guy at the store how to clean and store it: this is also important: even overnight: Clean the brush whenever paint gets built up, and when your done for the day. it prevents the bristles from splitting and keeps the edge neat. I can keep such a brush in daily use for 3-4 months.

PS: foam brushes are crap and anyone who uses them deserves what they get: they streak and cause the paint to run, wasting time and creating poor coverage: I almost feel sorry for the previous poster (-almost).What is the easiest way to paint old style multi-paned glazed windows.?
You seem to have a good grasp of the Pain of painting Panes. The only thing I can suggest is using a small foam ';brush';. They can be purchased in any place that sells paint and come in many sizes. The edge is tapered which makes it easier to paint a straight line and they hold paint well. I find using them makes the job go faster.
Are these windows smooth? If they are, dont bother with tape, dont worry about paint on the glass. Simply paint, blow the paint on the glass, let it dry hard and use a razor blade/window scraper to get the paint off.
I don't bother with tape, I use a small foam brush, and a piece of plain or newspaper. I just hold paper under wooden part and paint with the brush. That way you can get right into corners.Use a filler like Selleys( either white or wood coloured) for cracks. Then use an Acrylic paint, easy to wash out brushes. Then just throw the foam brush away afterward.Foam brushes are only for those who appreciate the ease of using them, I love them, and I get a good result every time.Good Luck!

What does my wife mean by ';Will you paint the windows';?

If i do,will our Electric bill go up a lot? What does my wife mean by ';Will you paint the windows';?
Hey Mr, I think she wants you to paint the window panes not the actual windows.

And no your electricity bill will not go up as you are not painting the actual glass window itself so you will not be plumited into darkness!

xxxWhat does my wife mean by ';Will you paint the windows';?
May be when you try to paint the windows by keeping them open and your system tries to heat up the room and because of the chill wind blowing in, it constantly keeps operating and your electricity bill goes up.

This is what happens when you always think about being green,
I don't understand. I'm guessing she would mean to paint the window pane?

How can painting windows put your electricity bill up? That doesn't make any sense!
Ha ha that is funny, might be left in the dark, but I think she means paint the frames around the windows.
I think she means the window pains not the glass and no your bill won't go up,but it will make your window look better.
She means to seal them shut to keep cold out.

She also may be a vampire.
She means paint the window frames not the glass.
I think he means 'cos the light won't get in lol. That would be a typically autistic understanding of a request.

C:\system32\mspaint.exe is correct. Go to the System32

folder, find mspaint.exe, right-click, make shortcut, pull it

to your desktop, and you have paint whenever you want.
If you are using Windows then the program is located at:

    C:\system32\mspaint.exe

Otherwise you should locate the file by clicking on Start, Run, Accessories, Paint.
Open the start menu to '; Start Search '; than enter paint

    mspaint

I do it that way all the time too.
    Type: mspaint
Type ';paint';. Or, try All Programs, - Accessories, - Paint.
go to all programs then up to accessories and it will be in that drop down menu.

you can open it from there.

If you right click on it there before opening you get another drop menu that will let you pin it to the start menu again.

What jerks. How do i take off graffity made with paint and acid on my windows?
I'm curious. Are the window panes GLASS or plexi???

Glass is not strictly affected in that way, by paint or acid.

In any case I empathize and it sounds like your option is to replace the damaged panes.

Is it okay to paint the (aluminum) around the windows and garage?

If so, what kind of paint; I want to change the colour. Is it okay to paint the (aluminum) around the windows and garage?
Use a 100% acrylic paint and you'll be fine! And yes vinegar if you don't feel comfortable just applying the 100% acrylic ALONE!Is it okay to paint the (aluminum) around the windows and garage?
yes its OK, but you need to prep the aluminum first.

clean with TSP or vinegar or ammonia.

they etch the material and then you can apply your paint and it will stick for quite some time.

the paint you use should require a primer, but check with your paint supplier first to see what he recommends for your area.
as long as you first apply a high-quality metal primer, you can paint over aluminum.
You'll need to scuff or sand it, as aluminum doesn't have a good surface for paint to adhere to.

It would be different paint for inside or outside.
sure, just make sure you get a paint that will work on metal.

Paint at will, then use a razor blade along the track after the paint has dried. Do not open the window until youve made the razor cut along the opening pattern.
maybe take something when the paint is still wet and run it along the frame maybe do it a couple times as the paint dries
The paint won't last long on moving surfaces so just keep a piece of masking tape on the moving part of the windows until after you are done painting and just touch-up after your remove the tape.

white is always a safe bet.I have a bathroom that barely fits a toilet %26amp; small sink %26amp; no windows what color should I paint to look big?
White... Bright white from ceiling to floor. All accessories would match too.
I would say yellow. In my experience as a house painter, the bathrooms that appeared larger then they actualy are, where bright yellow, not pastel. If you do it you have to go full bore with the color.

White will snow blind you, not a great way of making a room look bigger.
    White or off-white
use plenty of mirrors whatever you do, it gives the room more depth.
Yellow peach seafoam something nice and airy. I had dark walls in my bathroom and it seemed like it was closing in. When I painted the walls peach, the room seemed lighter and to open up. Mirror can work wonders too if only a a couple of those long strip mirrors, it will open up the room
very light colors , avoid stripes and patterns this includes heavy bold borders , add mirrors and think about instaling more lighting , if you cant install see what a small lamp on the back of the toilet may look good and will add some charm .
Light colors: pastel yellow, baby blue, or lilac. Light colors attract more light and make rooms look bigger. If you paint it yellow you'll start off each day cheerfully. It's a proven fact color effects the mood.
anything dark...darker colors open rooms up...soft light colors just mellow the room down...so go dark, maybe a red, lavender, or navy blue.
I have the same, painted darker-than-navy blue with grey towels and it looks large and bold and striking. Everyone comments on it and it's so small but looks great. I went against all rules and it worked.
What i would do i decotorate it in a way that suites you, and go with a lighter color that is no darker than the green on this page otherwise it might look smaller than it really is
light colors like beige,a creamy white color, etc.

What is the best way to remove paint from UPVC windows?

ok, this is what I did when i did it:

i got a piece of cloth (preferably cotton) and some white spirit

put the w.s. on the cloth (just some old clothing) %26amp; then it was a cvase of elbow grease.

it is possible to buy a machine if the area you want to remove isn't too close to the glass. there's a machine that heats up the paint %26amp; then allows you to scrape off the paint. It's still hard work but the good (and the bad) thing is the hardest bits of paint can be just molten off rather than having to use all that muscle and sandpaper. unfortunately if you have UPVC (as i now read that you do!) that's not really an option because you'll melt the glass and its frame.

the more pracical option for you is sandpaper, or a sanding machine or the white spirit i'm afraid.

if you had an impressionable kid stored somewhere you could promise them lots of money (拢5 $?)) to do the hard grind. if you're married and your spouse is stupid that could work too!!

:-}What is the best way to remove paint from UPVC windows?
    the glass or the plastic??

kind of paint??What is the best way to remove paint from UPVC windows?

if on the glass wait till dry and scrape off with a knife or razor blade for gloss, if a water based emulsion warm water and elbow grease should do the job, the same for the upvc frames

You would probably need to rub the surface down with wet and dry or apply PVA whatever you do the paint will eventually peel away and look worse that the brown framework! My advice is to put up with them, at least they are low maintenance.
No. Painting any kind of plastic is a bad idea. No matter if it's down spouts, gutters or waste pipes, it always flakes.
    you just need emamel paint
It's possible with a plastic paint, but seldom sucessful for long I'm afraid.

I'm moving my room from my sisteer's room that we share because I want my own space. I'm moving into my dad's office, and it is an average sized room with white doors and no windows. The carpeting is hideous, but I can't change that. The walls are a denim blue, but I am allowed to repaint them. What color should I choose? What color should I paint a room with no windows?
You certainly want to choose a color that will reflect light rather than absorb light. Choose any light color. If you have hideous carpet that you don't want to try to compliment your wall color with, try looking for a rug of some sort to hide the exposed carpet. Also, if you have the funds, there are several paint additives that you can put in your paint to reflect light. They will make your walls appear to be metallic. (I included a link to this paint)

Good luck! What color should I paint a room with no windows?
so the room can seem bright and happy with no windows, you can paint them like a winter white and then to cover the carpet you can get a rug ( they have some great ones at pbteen) i dont know what your favorite color is so i cant really help with the walls but some other options are pool blue, like pretty bright green (not neon), pale pink, or light purple. hope this helps :)

Paint the room any color you like, any color.

The key to making a windowless room seem brighter is not actually what color you paint it, but what you put in the room after it is painted.

You will need to focus on lighting. Lots of lighting in various wattages will brighten up the room without feeling like it is spot lighted. Also, use items that reflect light such as chrome or brass, lucite and or glass and shiny objects. And, of course a few well placed mirrors always add dimension to a room as long as they reflect something interesting. A glass coffee table always gives the illusion of more space.

Use few, but substantial pieces of furniture and be sure everything has a multi use. An ottoman can be storage and an extra seat and with a tray on top, an end table. Use a dresser for a TV stand so it can store DVDs, magazines and what have you. Don't use book cases, instead use shelving on the walls for storage to keep the floor space clear.

Back to the paint -- pick something that you love, whether it be a poster, artwork, fabric, a pillow or a rug. Select a color from an item and go for it.

And, remember, the lighting in the room is a key factor in the result of how the room feels, regardless of the paint color chosen. Good luck
Painting a light color will open up the space. Pick a pastel shade if you want color, or go with white for a blank slate look. Beware that a color that looks fun in a small swatch may look overwhelming in the whole room, and that even a light pastel color will look several shades darker once the whole room is painted. Do not paint a dark or even medium shade unless you don't mind if the room feels even smaller.
Now they say, {designers} that it doesn't matter what color paint, it's the furniture, they tell u to use furniture that airy on the bottom, no curtain on the bottom of the couch or chair, have fun.
White would be good. You can mix a little bit grey in it to make it look more cool without windows.
Something bright! or a red a dark red its really pretty or a brown those colors are in right now but since it has no windows make sure its a brighter color any color will look good with white trim
Definitely just plain white. It makes the room look bigger!
    White
Red looks pretty sharp with white trim

single edge razor blade. it wont hurt the glass.
If you have a lot of overspray on the windows go get a big razor scraper made for windows if just a little then just use a single edge razor blade.

i have windows xp and find the paint system that comes with it in accessories very basic, i have updates for everything else but couldn't find anything for paint is there anything, or is there something better elsewhere i can download for free? im not looking for anything too advanced just something me and my young son could use. thanks for any help.Paint on windows xp is very basic, is there any updates? or good alternatives?
Yeah, there's Paint.net. Think of it as a buffed up version of paint.

Gimp is an alternative, but it has quite a steep learning curve:

    http://www.gimp.org/

Photoscape is only really good for editing and touching up photos, but it has quite a bit of interesting features:

    http://www.photoscape.org/

Hope it helps!Paint on windows xp is very basic, is there any updates? or good alternatives?
umm a free alt. could be gimp.. its something close to photoshop but it also can be used just to mess around! heck i created my first moving images by messing around with it so.. it is worth a look at! an advantage point is it grows as he grows and there are also things he can learn by googling gimp tutorials.
You should also have within Microsoft Photoshop Editor which is one up from Paint or, if possibly, if you have Office XP, Photoshop Editor was replaced with Office Picture Manager which is even better, and on a par with the free download you can get from Google, i.e. Picasa2. These however are for digital imaging, not for drawing. So if it is something that you want to play around with for drawing, Open Office's draw program, is a basic version of Publisher and you could use the drawing tools, shapes etc. for constructing pics and shapes and colour them etc.
    *Gimp*

Can simply painting my house with Elastomeric paint stop small leaks trough windows?

I have several windows that leak in my 3 story town home. A contractor told me that the windows were installed improperly but that painting my home with an elastomeric paint will stop the leaking since its a stucco home and the leaking comes from micro cracks in the stucco. Does this sound right? Can simply painting my house with Elastomeric paint stop small leaks trough windows?
Elastomeric paints can be used on stucco, and it will seal micro cracks. Elastomeric paints can even ';bridge'; gaps up to 陆 inch if you use the correct products. BUT, if the windows are leaking no matter how great the paint is, it WILL NOT stop them from leaking! Elastomeric paints were designed for wind driven rain areas like the Gulf States, although they can be used in most areas too, they are just overkill and sometimes a pricey solution to something as simple as a good quality 100% acrylic paint. Can simply painting my house with Elastomeric paint stop small leaks trough windows?
    Trough? The word is THROUGH.
no it does not sound correct. i lived in arizona for 8 years. am very familiar with stucco and elastomerics. its thing, when the home was built i hope they put flashing around the windows before they applied stucco. and i would NEVER paint a house with elastomeric anything. when it starts peeling, you cannot get it to stop. it'll be like a plastic back peeling off you home. the eaiest fix would be since its stucco and there is texture there already, get some good 25 year siliconized caulk DO NOT USE SILiCONE!!! it has to be siliconized CAULK. apply the caulk around your windows and quickly wipe the caulk down smooth using a paint brush dipped in water. keep brush wet. it will smooth it down to match your texture and water seal that will last many years. do this proccess in 6 or 8 inch sections so the caulk wont dry too fast.
use laxcl caulk it's $12 a tube but guarenteed to stop the leak

If you want them opaque (can't see through them), a couple of coats of black painted from the inside of the windows will do the trick. Just give the inside surfaces a light sanding, mask the outside, and spray or airbrush away for a consistent coat. Everytime I try, paint will have what I want, then it will show a black spot where the image should be. I also tried to move it around, and the picture is somehow still devoted in the same spot, not acting as if it was a picture...its odd.How do you copy and paste something from windows media player to paint?
I'm guessing you're trying to take a screen shot of a movie or another type of video clip. I dunno why it won't do it. I've tried it as well. It works with streaming video but just not downloaded video. I'm not sure. I looked all over and have yet to find the answer. How do you copy and paste something from windows media player to paint?
try some anothe program.. such as adobe.. after taking a screen shot using print screen.
hold control and shift and then press Print Screen. that copies the screen. then you can paste it into print and crop as needed.
Because of the recording industry, video when playing goes directly to your screen than through windows display. Thus windows does not see the video that playing nor any picture of that video. Most players conform to this specification since all use the built in video rendering engine. However video players such as VideoLan do its own video processing and the image can be captured easily.
push prtscrn, to print the screen then copy it on to paint.
Well I do it this way with other players that have still like when I copy images from like a dvd, I use capture or still and it'll come out as a dvd.bmp I then use a file converter like xnview to convert it to .jpg, I reccommend getting something like that so the picture will show up in their browser and use the batch feature to convert the file

What has my daughter done whilst using the paint programme on windows?

Help please my daughter was on the windows paint programme and now the mouse does not work I'm sure she has done this in the passed but I cannot remenber which key to press to get it working again. What has my daughter done whilst using the paint programme on windows?
MS Paint has nothing to do with the Mouse Problem.

Maybe you only need to Restart your PCWhat has my daughter done whilst using the paint programme on windows?
Perhaps the mouse cable has become loose, try the plug. Failing which, just try a reboot.
usually you may need to check your mouse port at the back, the part where it worked again seemed like a chance that the mouse responded to the system. a restart would usually fix it but if the problem keeps coming back up then you need a new mouse
She thought the mouse was thirsty and poured water in it.
Maybe she has changed the mouse key settings?

Go to control panel %26gt;%26gt; mouse %26gt;%26gt; and check whether the settings are right in all the tabs.

You can also troubleshoot it in the hardware tab at the same place.
As another poster said, it is unlikely that the programme caused your mouse to not work.

The one question not asked is, ';do you have a wireless mouse?'; If so, it may just be that the battery died. Some mice will start working intermittently, other just give no warning.

Also, since most mice today are optical, whether you have a wireless or wired, look underneath. Do you see a red light? If not, it definitely means the mouse does not have power. Mind you, if wireless, there could still be enough juice to light the light but not update the position wirelessly so, just because there is a light, don't assume my first comment (low battery) is invalid.
Sounds like you need to restart.... just switch of the power and back on again this should fix it, just when it's off make sure the all the cables are in place.
Do not just switch the power off and back on as suggested somewhere above - you can damage your computer.

As also suggested the problem is not related to the paint program, that's just a coincidence.

Follow the mouse cable to where it connects to the back of the computer. Make sure it a) actually connects and b) is pushed in as far as it will go. If it is a USB mouse (in other words, the connector that goes in the computer is a flat metal connector) try plugging it in a different USB port in the back.

Wait a minute or so and try the mouse again. If it still doesn't work, you need to restart the computer. Press the windows key (the key with the windows logo between Ctrl and Alt) to open the start menu, then use the arrow keys to select turn off/shut down, press enter/return, then use the arrow keys to select restart and press enter/return.
Try and make sure the mouse is plugged in all the way. If she pulled it out of the port even a little bit, it won't work at all. it might look plugged in and simply be loose.
The mouse may have just come loose from the back of your computer. make sure the lead/cable is plugged all the way in, if it is restart your computer and i'm sure it'll be good as new

Acrylic are great...But you way want to clean your windows after New years eve or some later date.

To be sure you can remove it easily wash your windows with pure liquid soap and let a thin film dry. (when done painting clean the soapy parts you you want to see through) On top of that you can paint. It allows you to paint without the paint going messy on you and when you want to remove it it comes off very easy. Just use warm/hot water to give it a quick wash and peal the painting from the window in one go.What kind of paint do I use to paint Christmas on my windows outside ?
If you want to paint indoors remember to reverse lettering. With black marker on a large paper tape marker-side facing out on the OUTSIDE of the window. From inside you will be able to see the reverse of the letters if the sun is shinning through.

    Arcrylic
Tempera paint will work for you, providing that the window will not get moisture. Tempera would be more economical that acrylic paint and will go on the widow better. The tempera will be flat when it dries, and acrylics would have more of a shine.....Good Luck....and Merry Christmas!
I've used a non-oil based craft paint sold at most craft stores. Its acrylic I think...it comes off easy from glass, just wet it and scrape it off...

You do not have to use harsh chemicals, steel wool will work on both glass and tile. Try an inconspicuous area on the tile but it should be fine. In the tight corners use a razor blade. Hope this helps.
If it's latex, just use soap and water or windex and maybe a razor blade (be careful!). If oil based, use the paint thinner. Good luck.
Pick up a bottle of Goof-Off and use a clean rag. After removal then use Windex. Goof-Off is specifically made for paint screw-ups. Works real easy.
I used a razor blade to scrap paint off my windows - it MIGHT work on the tile? Don't know.
If the paint is latex (water based) GOOF OFF works very well.

If the paint is oil based, use paint thinner and a razor blade scraper.
On the glass, get a razor-blade scraper, and then just wash the windows.

On the frames, if it's aluminum, I'd use alittle steel-wool IF a rag won't pull it up.

If Bathroom tile is gloss... use that razor-scraper.

98% of interior paint in the USA is going to be latex.. no need for ';paint thinner';.

water based acrylics are best. they come in a huge variety of brilliant colours and they come off fairly easily when you are ready to remove them.

    merry christmas!
I'm a sign writer, and for the type of thing you're wanting to do, use acrylic paints. If you are painting the exterior of the glass, use a flat, white, water based undercoat first, it will mean less coats of paint, and the colours will be much richer. If you are painting from the interior, paint your picture, then go over it with a coat of undercoat for the same reason.

If you wanted to use the proper glass paints, during the day from inside your house, it will resemble a stained glass window, and at night it will look like that from outside the house when your lights are on, inside. These cost a little more, but it depends on the effect you want.
You can use acrylic craft paints. They will wash off later or scrape off with a razor blade. If you want something more permanent, look for glass paint at the craft store.

General questions in situations like yours require specific answers, so can we get a little more information? Are you talking about the inside or outside? What is making you need to paint it again? What was previously applied? What prep work was done last time? Sorry there isn't enough information here to get you in the correct direction. I worked in a paint store for almost 10 years, 5 them as a manager, so I can give you advice with some help from you. You don't know how many times people have come into my store asking a general question like yours, looking for specific answers for their situation. Getting more information from them can be like pulling teeth! Re-post with specifics and I'll help you, or go to you local paint store and ask them. Avoid the big-box-mega-retailers at all costs! Stick with the smaller independents. It will cost more for the product, but they (usually) have much more knowledgeable staff on hand. All they deal with is paint and painting issues, so they are the most help.

How do i remove paintball paint off my cars windows and body without damaging anything?

We tried soap, tar and bug remover, but nothing seems to work fine. windex sorta for the windows, but it takes a ton of it and a ton of effort also. The cars are a honda accord and a toyota rav4 if it matters. How do i remove paintball paint off my cars windows and body without damaging anything?

also try a product called clay magic. Spray the area that has the paint on it with windex, or similar glass cleaner, and then gently rub the area with the clay magic. This is fine to do on both paint and glass. Body shops use this product all the time.

As I know it, paintballs are made with harmless ingredients. Try using hot (not boiling) water on it, as what you may have is either a wax or gelatin on the surface which may not come off with soaps. The hot water will loosen the material.

Remember to re-wax the car when you are done, as the chemicals you have used have stripped the wax off of the car.
Try Brake Fluid, but do not leave on to long and only use a small amount on a cloth Rag.
Paintball ';paint'; contains the same wax that cayons are made of. Whatever will remove crayon should remove the paint from the car.
I would use Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.
    use paint polish
    wd-40 on a cloth

THANK YOU !!!How i can remove the old paint from my windows frames ?
Get a paint stripper. It's a chemical solvent that comes in a can. You put it on with a brush and then it disolves the paint into a gelatinous mess. Then you clean it up with newspapers and a paint scraper. You can get all this stuff at your local hardware store. Please be aware that the odor emitted from the solvent is toxic. Make sure you leave the room well ventilated - open the windows. You may also want to buy a cheap mask for your face and gloves for your hands. Make sure the gloves are the type that the solvent won't eat through. Dishwashing gloves won't do. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paint_strip鈥?/a>

Go to the second paint with the second picture and use the dotted outline-box tool and drag around the second picture. Once the box is around the second picture right click on it and do copy.
